stay on the streets of this town and they'll be carving you up, alright.

peter is kind. her father had tried to prepare her for interaction with strangers as well as he could, though there is only so much you can learn from second-hand experience -- adapt, she'd learned, however. assess, collect information. with marissa dead and erik too, having sacrificed himself so that she could have a chance, hanna does what he wanted her to and perhaps what she wants herself. she keeps walking, settles into this foreign place with no one at her heels anymore.
he's taught her how to ride a bike, the boy with the almond eyes and hair like a bear's unruly fur, and today he is taking her into the city of new york. she knows that it is often called the city of dreams, but doesn't quite understand the meaning behind it, as her dreams are very different from those of the people who founded the expression. the skyscrapers stretch so high that she can barely make out the tops of them, even as she tips her head back and squints against the sun, and it's a beautiful sight, just like that of the many people they pass by on the sidewalk.
peter speaks of the places that she might recognize from movies, and she doesn't quite have the heart to tell him that she hasn't seen a single one. instead she merely nods, smiles, and lets the wind caress her face and toy with her hair as she adds the little facts he mentions to memory, more interesting than the ones she already knows -- current and past mayors, area, population density, whereas peter lets her know of noteworthy locations, perhaps which foods to try, and a few of his own experiences.
she finds those more fascinating than the other stories, and at one point, she asks him to stick more to those if possible. it's how many people get to know each other, isn't it? ]
